History of Amritsar

The origin of Amritsar city was started in the year 1574 when the fourth Sikh Guru Ram Das bought the land of the village of Tung in just Rs. 7oo after hearing about the pool which had healing powers. At this time the place is known as Guru Da Chakk. After that, he instructed his son Guru Arjan Dev to construct a temple on that land. In 1601, the temple was completed and known as the Harmandir. In 18th-century, Maharaja Ranjit Sigh the first Sikh ruler donated a 100 Kilos of gold to the temple which we are now seen as the gold plating on the Golden temple.

Amritsar also witnessed the bloody struggle for survival to the most prominent is Jalianwala Bagh Massacre in which thousands of innocent people has been killed and the other during the India-Pak Partition.

On Sunday, 13th Apr 1919, all the villagers celebrate the occasion of Baisakhi festival in the Jalianwala Bagh, Dyer the British officer with 50 Gurkha troops attacked on the innocent villagers they fired on the villagers for 10 minutes. This incident killed more than 1500 innocent people, including men, women, and kids.

During this ceremony both the military forces i.e. Border Security Force of India and Pakistan Rangers of Pakistan start with an agile parade, the heavy gates are open by the infantryman from both the sides, soldiers come closer, exchange brutish glimpse and copied threat. After handshakes, they start lowering the flags and fold them. Afterward, the neatly folded flags carry back into the respective camps with pride and dignity. And with this, the ceremony ends with a sound of trumpet followed by a final handshake of soldiers and closing of the gate. The military forces of both the ends jointly followed this ceremony since 1959.
