Monkey Temple Jaipur – A house of hundreds of Monkeys

Monkey temple jaipur

I’m a bit confused about Galtaji Temple/ Monkey Temple, Is it a Hindu pilgrimage or a residence of hundreds of monkeys? Actually, it is both a sacred temple devoted to Hanuman Ji a god of monkeys and also houses hundreds of monkeys in its complex.

A Monkey temple is situated 10 km away from Jaipur city built in a mountain pass of Aravalli hills. This magnificent temple is built by a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II name Diwan Rao Kriparam. This 16th-century monkey temple was built by using pink sandstones in palace style architecture. The temple complex has seven sacred water tanks or ‘kunds’ which filled by natural fresh water spring. It’s a belief that these kunds are never getting dry. ‘Galta kund’ is the holiest kund among all the kunds.
