Mysore Palace
Mysore Palace or Amba Vilas Palace is one of the largest palaces in India placed at the center of the city. Mysore Palace has remained the seat of the Wodeyar dynasty from 1399 to 1950.
The original palace was built of wood, which got fire in the year 1897 during the wedding ceremony of the Chamaraja Wodeyar’s elder daughter Jayalakshammanni.
Later, in 1912 the palace was rebuilt in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, it’s an amalgamation of Hindu, Rajput, Muslim, and Gothic style of architecture.
This magnificent palace has a three-storey stone structure with three pink, golden gilded domes and a five-storied tower. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful garden.
The Mysore Palace treasures a jewelry, souvenirs paintings, royal attires, musical instruments, portraits, and numerous other items. The main attraction of the Mysore Palace is around 97,000 bulbs lit all over the palace on Sunday evening.
Chamundi Hills
Chamundi hills are famous for Chamundeshwari Temple located at a distance of around 13 Km from Mysore. This temple is situated at a height of around 1000 meters.
The key features of the temple are the statue of the Nandi bull, statue of Mahishasura, statue of Goddess Chamundeshwari, and the cross-legged posture of Lord Shiva. From Chamundi Hills, you can experience the panoramic view of the city.
Brindavan Garden
Brindavan Garden is one of the popular tourist spots of Mysore spread over an area of 150 acres, situated adjoining the Krishnarajasagara dam built across the Kaveri river. The major attraction of the place is the mesmerizing colorful and musical fountains.
Mysore Zoo
This is one of the famous zoo in India houses a wide variety of wild species like mammals, birds, reptiles, lions, tigers and giraffes.
St. Philomena’s Church
This is one of the tallest churches in Asia built in 1936 in neo-gothic style of architecture designed by Reverend Rene Feuge. The exterior and interior of the church is beautifully designed. This holy place resides the statue of St. Philomena and a figure of Jesus Christ.
The Railway Museum
This museum houses, old trains, steam engines, showcase classic locomotives. The most amazing one is Maharani saloon carriage, dining car, and kitchen & royal toilet.
Jaganmohan Palace
This is one of the most visited places by art-lovers. The palace showcases the artworks and artefacts collected from all over the South India, carvings, oil paintings, ceramic & glass artefacts and much more.
Karanji Lake
This stunning lake is spanning in an area of about 90 acres one of the popular picnic spots for tourists. This place offers fun activities for children, boating point, and butterfly park. Along with this, the lake is a house of so many migratory birds.
