As per the tale, Hiranyakashipu was a demon king who was arrogant and demand everyone to worship him, but his own son Prahlada worship Lord Vishnu, which infuriated Hiranyakashipu. So, Hiranyakashipu and Holika planned to kill Prahlada.

Holika had a immune to injury from fire so she sits in the fire with his niece. But, Lord Vishnu saves Prahlad and Holika burnt into the fire and he also killed Hiranyakashipu. That’s why this Holi bonfire remembers the victory of good over bad.
