Ramnagar Fort Story & Reason Why this Fort is so Famous?
We all know Varanasi is famous for its history, magnificent Ganga Aarti, and glorifying culture & tradition. But Do you know Varanasi has one more popular place to visit i.e., Ramnagar Fort
This lofty and stately 18th-century Ramnagar Fort is situated on the bank of the Ganga river opposite to the Tulsi Ghat at a distance of 14 Km from Varanasi. This sandstone fort was built by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh in the year 1750. The most attractive thing which makes this crumbling, beautiful and mesmerizing is to watch the sunset over the Ganga river from here.
Ramnagar Fort History:
This fort palace has been used as a residential palace by the royal family of the Varanasi since 1750. Ramnagar Fort is a beautiful concoction of the Indian and the Islamic style of architecture. Ramnagar fort houses several alluring and influential buildings like audience hall, Hanuman Temple, Durga Temple, Chhinnamastika Temple, and one more temple devoted to Ved Vyas is also situated in this fort.
The fort has been constructed above the flood level in a situation of the overflowing of the Ganga river. The fort has numerous beautifully carved balconies, open courtyards, and pavilions. The palace has two white towers, one side of the tower has the private residence of the King of Benaras and another tower.
Ramnagar Fort Museum:
The most attractive place of the fort is the Ramnagar Fort Museum also called Saraswati Bhawan. The museum exhibits a vast collection of imperial things like gold & silver palanquins, a huge collection of vintage cars, royal costumes, ivory work, armour, guns, furniture, Mughal miniatures, swords, sedan chairs, etc.
The most attention drawing and interesting item of the museum are the ‘Dharam Ghari’ a huge clock created by the famous astronomer of the Banaras in the year 1852. The clock does not solely display time, day, month, and year, but also shows astronomical details of the stars.
Ramnagar Fort Timing
The fort opens every day at 10:00 am – 5:00 pm except during Holi and Diwali.
Best Time to Visit Ramnagar Fort :
This grandiose fort can be visited any time of the year, but preferably the best time to visit Ramnagar Fort of Varanasi during the month of October – March. You can also choose to come to visit the Fort on the occasion of Dussehra as at this time the fort celebrates the extravaganza celebration of the occasion.

- For Adults – Rs. 15 per person
- For Child – Rs. 10 per person
